RE-INVENTED UNIQUE TIMBER FURNITURE FOR SALE

Between 1960 and 1980 Australia produced some of the best timber chairs in the world in both design and quality. There are many of these examples of this furniture that are well worth refurbishing.

To refurbish these great teak, blackwood and coachwood chairs is quite involved and many refurbishments we see, are far from authentic. How do we know this? Our family sold both new and second hand furniture from 1965 to 2005. Our fabric shop owner Margaret de Stigter was one of the biggest independant retailers of Parker Furniture and our Manager Karen de Stigter sold Parker furniture for nearly 20 years.

Our refurbishments include our special timber technique where we use our own revitalising and grain enhancing treatment and a very high grade Belgium flaxseed oil. The results are stunning. The outcome is a matt looking finish which is completely authentic to how they were originally made. If you see gloss or semi gloss on any of these mid century beauties it is simply not authentic to the original making.

Our favourite manufacturers are the ones we concentrate on with our refurbishments. These are Parker, Fler and Cintique and we only do a small part of the ranges that we consider the best of the best.

6 PARKER DINING CHAIRS: 2 X MODELNO 61 AND 4 X MODEL N0 60 $2450

Timber and process

These chairs are made of premium grade teak timber. We have completely stripped, sanded and used a timber rejuvenating/grain enhancement treatment we have created. They have been finished in a serviceable high end flax oil, that gives a very natural appearance [matt, no sheen as per original]. All joints have been checked and re glued where necessary.

Upholstery

The chairs have been re upholstered in a Warwick fabric which originally retailed for $70 per metre. The webbing in the seats have been fully replaced and the foam upgraded.

Vintage

These chairs were made between the late 1960’s and early 1970’s

Story

Parker furniture needs no introduction. The no 60 and no 61 [carver] dining chairs are probably the most elegant and finely made of all of their dining chairs. The thing about this restoration is the effect of the rejuvenating and grain enhancing treatment on these teak chairs. It looks much better than the finishes that you see in boutiques for huge money. The flax oil finish is better as well. It surpassed even our high expectations on this refurbishment. The grain enhancement is outstanding. There are 2 carver chairs [no 61] and 4 dining chairs [no 60]

Upholstery

The chairs have been professionally re upholstered in a Warwick fabric which originally retailed for $200 per metre. All springs and cushions have been refurbished where required as well.

Vintage

These chairs were made between 1967 and 1969.

Story

Cyntique was the British equivalent of Parker Furniture. Their designs were made under license in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the USA. The Coachwood chairs were all made in Australia and this pair likely was made by Ashcraft furniture in the Western Suburbs of Sydney. These chairs were more expensive to buy than Parker at the time. Many top Interior designers used them in late 60’s early 70’s and high end jobs.
